A Page to Stage Event
led by Tom Andes
What approaches work best when revising crime fiction, and how do they differ—if at all—from other genres? This workshop will take a look at both the macro and the micro levels of the process of revising a genre novel.
Like all fiction, mystery fiction begins and ends with character. But how do we develop compelling characters, then work them into believable plots that will keep the reader guessing and turning the pages without feeling tricked? When writing in a genre in which style is so much a part of the effect—after all, the hardboiled style has exerted a definitive influence on American writing for more than a century—how do we find the right voice for our characters without resorting to cliché?
This workshop will give writers tools to guide them through revisions of mystery and crime novels by considering their stories holistically, and seeing how plot, character, voice, and other craft elements are inextricably connected.
This event is free and open to the community. No RSVP required.
